We all have one. Every year, they show up at Thanksgiving dinner tables across America. We are, of course, talking about drunk uncles.
They rattle off nonsense between bites of yams and stuffing. You would rather eat unseasoned turkey if it means avoiding an awkward conversation just so your drunk uncle passes the salt and pepper.
Here in Pennsylvania, we’ve got our own ‘drunk uncle’ in our sitting governor, Tom Corbett. His eyeroll-inducing foolishness is but one of many reasons why he’s on everybody’s “most vulnerable” lists for 2014.
See if you can spot Tom Corbett’s drunk uncle moments.
March 2012: Tom Corbett tells Pennsylvania women to “just close your eyes” during government-mandated ultrasounds.
July 2010: Tom Corbett argued against the extension of unemployment benefits because, “The jobs are there but if we keep extending unemployment, people are just going to sit there.”
May 2013: Asked if he had any Latino staffers by a Spanish-language reporter during a Philadelphia forum, Tom Corbett responded, “No we do not have any staff members in there. If you can find us one, please let us know.”
October 2013: Tom Corbett criticized an analogy used by his lawyers regarding marriage equality and offered a bizarre analogy of his own: “I think a much better analogy would have been brother and sister, don’t you?”
